2009 brought a new dimension for the UMP students, when they were first introduced to the SAE-UMP Chapter. The first step for our club was to form a Formula SAE Team. This was particularly significant go it aimed to provide opportunities for the members to experience managing a Formula-style racing team as well as to design and engineer an autocross car. This first step required many things to be done. The first and foremost was to develop and train the members to competent in automotive, manufacturing, design, electronics, and even a business fields. Another vital thing is finding a potential sponsor and partner to finance our dream to build the racing car.
The vision of the SAE-UMP Chapter is to be the leading society that prepares students as well as serves an opportunity for students to experience developments in the latest knowledge, to have hands-on skills and social networking as preparation to be at par i rapid-developed mobility engineering. SAE UMP Chapter has sent its representative, UMP SAE Team, to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2010 challenge in order to enhance professionalism level, to open up opportunities for student's involvement in hands-on and technical skills. Again in year 2011, SAE-UMP Chapter sent a team to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2011 to continue accept the challenge for building an eco-friendly car. Though that we did not have much luck in 2011, however we are pursuing for a successful result in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012.

technology-based programs and research outputs. We are committed,
herein, to share with you the UMP “campus” experience you need that
meets the purpose of your visit.
UMP is relatively a new university and it has been categorised as a
focused university, among 19 other public universities in Malaysia. Our
specialisations are in the fields of engineering, technology and
industrial sciences. You will find that the courses the university
offers are those that are in great demand by students in countries, like
Malaysia, which are fast developing. More importantly the teaching and
learning approach that has been adopted in UMP is one that are highly
student-centred and problem-based.
To achieve these, students in UMP enjoy the use of state-of-the-art
facilities that resemble those used in industries. Known for its
“Teaching Factory” concept, students in UMP are taught by experienced
faculties in a learning environment that prepares them for the
real-world.
UMP is currently operating in two campuses. The Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering and the Faculty of Electric and Electronics Engineering are
located in a resort-like campus of Pekan. The rest of the faculties,
academic centres and Centres of Excellence are operating in Gambang, a
town strategically situated in the rapidly growing petrochemical and
biotechnology hub. The two campuses are about 40 km apart.
For potential scholars wishing to spend their time in UMP, we offer a
very conducive environment for research, teaching and consultancies.
Several visiting positions are available that suit your preference.
